Vado HD Coming Soon, looks Superior to the Flip MinoHD

Released a few months ago, the Vado video cam was met with mixed reactions around the net. Cnet thought it was a fairly good product that was inexpensive, but they were critical of the lack of features in the included software, and the lack of an SD expansion slot. PC Mag shared most of the same sentiments in their review, and noted the subpar mic and poor upload quality. Creative created the Vado as a cheaper alternative to the Flip series of pocket cams, and it does appear to have made some strides in that market. Just last week a Flip HD model was announced and of course the most obvious move for Creative would be to make a High-def Vado. That's exactly what they've done, and in a few months the Vado HD will be available for purchase.

Creative put out a teaser image of the Vado HD in their Singapore holiday brochure. The caption says "Coming Soon" with a price of 299 Singapore dollars, or about $196 US. That's about $30 cheaper than the Flip MinoHD. Not only is the pricing better, but according to our friends at NBC, the specs easily trump the Flip HD model. The Vado HD will come with a Wide-angle lens that will record in HD, and be able to output in HD resolutions as well (up to 1080i). Additionally, there will be an 8GB Vado HD model, which is double the capacity of the MinoHD. Finally, Creative has beefed up the software package and will include programs to help you edit your videos with ease

Vado HD teased on Vimeo?

Just recently, a Vimeo user with the name "vado" posted the above videos indicating it was "taken with a pocket video cam in HD". We're assuming this was taken with the Vado HD, and it looks pretty damn sweet. I personally didn't have a great interest in the original Vado, but the Vado HD is looking like a must buy for me. I just hope Creative can take their expertise in the DAP field and apply it to the Vado. I mean, not only would the Vado HD be superior to the Flip in the pocket cam industry, but it could double as a full-fledged MP3 player as well? That would be excellent.

We'll have more information for you as it comes in!
