Creative to debut a Wi-Fi Video Phone at CES 2008

While we mainly focus on DAP's and related audio products from Creative, I thought I'd write something up about Creative's upcoming Video Chat device that was leaked through the FCC. It's called "InPerson" and it will be geared towards families, and businesses alike. The form factor should be around the size of the Asus EEE PC, if not smaller. It'll have a built-in wide-angle lens camera that will record video in H.264, and display it on the devices' 7.0" screen, or through TV-Out. It's connected through the built-in Wi-Fi, but there's also a standard ethernet connection on board.

Not too many details are known at this point, but I think it's safe to say this will also support the most popular media codecs available. I'm a bit shocked that Creative is taking a risk on such a niche product like this. The idea for a videophone like this has been around for over a decade, but none have really taken off. The built-in Wi-Fi takes it to new levels, but I'm still wary about how well it will do. We'll update you as we learn more about this device. Keep in mind, this is not being touted as a PMP, so don't get too disappointed by this product. I'm sure Creative will have something more appealing to us Zen fans at CES in January.
