It wasn't simply just a font then. That or it was transparent. Font's can't be two different colors. I'll have to double check white with a black outline (and vice versa) today, but I highly doubt it.

the discussion should continue on the thread, but it's unecessary,
in my opinion, to make non-programers to read all 30+ pages of
it and try to put the pieces of this "puzzle" together.

in my particular case, i'd like to know how to choose a particular
font to use in my firmware. i'm ok with the player's colours but
i never loved its font....especilally its size. i also have a Nomad
Zen NX and it has 2 font sizes.

i suggest a few modifications to be done on the Original Post (Page 1):

- change the post to reflect the achievements obtained so far.

- add links to all programs and files needed to alter/upload the
firmware to the ZVM. such links should be kept updated.

- also add a link to a page (maybe a wiki) with full instructions on
how to get the firmware altered/uploaded to the ZVM. i can
help with that. alternatively, such instructions could be added to
the Original Post itself! codyrt9120's video is of great help, but
textual instructions with screencaps can be useful too.

needless to say: you guys have done a great job! congrats.

can someone make new firmware with ariel font?
i whant to check if i can see files in hebrew.
Thanks.

Although this one isn't Unicode, the Unicode version (I used the one delivered with WinVista) is about 20MB big and is too heavy for the ZVM to handle.

Maybe it's to early to get to it but i just got an idea.

Wouldn't it be nice to add a schedule function where you can set everything up to let the play record automaticly a radio show?

Maybve handy if you like mixes. Most of the radio stations here in NL play mixes at night :sigh: . it would be nice if the ZVM could record it, while it plugged in the charger.

Add it to the Rockbox feature request list, maybe someone is willing to code it.

I don't *make* the font, I just add it to the firmware package.
But if you could find a font that has these capabilities, I will upload it(the firmware).

I've summarized all Firmwarefiles released by mcuelenaere so far (all credits go to him)

Arial

Comic Sans MS

Disney Font

Trashco - hard to read and 'laggy'

How it works:
1. Created the folder C:\CtJbFW\newbin
2. Copy the edited fimware into it (rename to nk.bin)
3. Run the Updater
4. Press 'Update'
5. If it shows a message press Yes
6. Wait untill the Updateprocess has finished

Download the Updater from -->here<--

Thanks mcuelenaere , i hope there will be some more stuff soon. (Maybe a tutorial?!? )

i second that. a tutorial would set us free to experiment with own fonts and sizes.

now that you have already provided a firmware with Arial, how difficult would be to make the font display at a particular size? is it necessary to start from scratch when defining the font size or is it just a matter of opening the Arial firmware in a HexEditor and changing it a little?

Well, actually it isn't that hard. Maybe I'll make a short movie or something to show you how I change some fonts.

And about the font size, you could change the size of the font directly by editing the .ttf file, but it could be defined in Jukebox.grs, the same file where all the themes and PNG's are saved. Because in that, for each theme the font is explicitly defined (so it should be possible using several fonts with several themes) and *maybe* (this is just an assumption) the font size is also defined in there.
