I've been asked a few times if it's possible to add album art to your files after they've already been transferred. I just found out how it's done. I will provide you with a step by step guide of how you do it.

Note: This is only for adding album art to files already on your player. If you need help with album art before you tranfer, follow this guide: [Linky]

Guide to Adding Album Art Retrospectively

Before

1.) Connect your Vision:M and open up Zen Media Explorer
2.) Select "Browse Media"

3.) Click "View" at the top and select "Album" (Warning: If you have WMP11 beta installed this will not work)

4.) Select the album that doesn't have album art. You will notice there is a CD and musical note icon where there should be album art.

5.) Now find the album art you need to add, by whatever method you want. I personally just go to amazon.com and save the image to my computer. You can also drag straight from your web browser instead of saving it.

6.) After you've save the image to your computer, you then drag and drop it right onto that CD/Musical note icon inside Zen Explorer. You will hear the Vision:M's hard drive processing and your album art will show up in place of the musical note icon.

After

7.) Disconnect your player, and you will now see your album art shows up a the screen.

WOW...this is something even I didn't know! Thanks, ssj. Before I knew that any method other than Media Explorer or Media Source wouldn't work for album art when transferring, I had retransferred my couple thousand songs repeatedly trying to figure it out. Don't I feel stupid. !mistrust

Nice, Mike. Since I just got my ZVM back today and already found some files missing album art, this will come in really handy.

So where does the album art files get saved to? Are they hidden .jpg files in the album directory?

Creative Zen Vision:M (Black). Sony EX71-SL(B).

It's saved as information and embedded into the id3 tag. I'm not sure exactly how that works.

Extra note: You don't have to save a cover file first.
You can search for the file using google and then drag and drop from google.
Saves you some time.

Absolute legend, so glad someone has found that out.

This also lets you drag in your own custom album art as well, ideal for compilations and the like.

Do you after you've already transferred a file without album art (i.e. retrospectively), or just in general? If you're talking about in general, then yes, that's how I add all my album art to my files. If you're talking about retrospecitvely, it doesn't work.

You can see my multiple methods of getting album art to work in this guide

I dont' think its embedded in the id3 tag because if you copy the mp3's back to you system, there is no extra album art, or retrospectively, if you copy over mp3's with embedded album art, it does not show up here. I think it is just telling the player that the folder has this album art and associates the folder (rather than the MP3's itself) with the art.

Another quick note, you don't need to save the picture onto your system first, you can just drag the picture directly out of Internet Explorer or Firefox (I don't know about the other broswers) and into album art thing. Just make sure the picture is under 500x500 (i think thats the limit) and it'll resize correctly.

Great news, album art is a "must-have" ability in any new PMP.

Have you tried to play MP3 files from the ZV in Media Player/iTunes/Musicmatch? is the album cover still embedde in the id3 tag?

I know that Musicmatch and iTunes can embed album art in the id3 tag (Media Player can also but you have to use the "Advanced Tag Editor").
