Inside the Zen Vision

A few weeks ago curiosity got the better some owners of the Vision:M, and they took it apart. It seems the same can be said for a fellow member here at epiZENter named SumWon. He has opened up his Creative Zen Vision and taken many pictures of its various parts.

Like the Vision:M, the Zen Vision uses the Texas Instruments TMS320DM320 system chipset. This chip is also used in other PMP's, such as the popular Cowon A2. Looking at the pictures there seems to be a little space left available to upgrade the hard drive. Here's what SumWon had to say:

And now for the good news, the Vision does appear to have the 3mm extra clearance required to fit a 2 platter 60/80Gb drive. Look carefully at the underside image and you'll notice some shock-absorber pads on the copper shield. They're taller than 3mm...
The hardware makes it seem like Creative could've added a lot more to the Vision, including AC3, FLAC, and ogg support, as well a USB-Host among other things.

UPDATE: Upon further analysis and testing, it doesn't seem like a larger hard drive can fit inside the Vision. Ah Well.

Thanks, SumWon

I thought that it wasn't possible to shove a 60/80 in there, I think another couple mm are needed.

Well it seems you can't actually put a bigger drive in the Zen Vision either. Details in the original thread...
