Zii comes out to play

As we are speaking, the Zii Summit is underway in Shenzhen, China. Below is a round up of the announcements made today at the summit:

- Zii TRINITY Mobile Platform
ZiiLABS have finally entered the mobile phone arena with its TRINITY mobile platform. Together with the TRINITY phone, it features quad-band GSM/GPRS, tri-band WCDMA support with a 3.1" 16.7 million color OLED screen. The phone is powered by the ZMS-05 processor and comes with the usual X-Fi audio, 1080p video output with microSD slot. It runs both on Google's Android and Creative's Plazma. In summary, it's the ZiiEGG with mobile phone capability.

- ZiiLife™ Software, Services and Content Suite
To add value to the Zii range of devices, Creative introduces ZiiLife which consist of 4 main services:

  • ZiiMeet – The Next Generation 7M™ Collaborative Conferencing System
"ZiiMeet is a highly-scalable Multi-Purpose, Multi-View, Multi-Platform, Multi-Medium, Multi-Host, Multi-Party and Multi-Device collaborative conferencing solution that works on PC, Mac and Zii Powered devices. ZiiMeet allows different parties to communicate and broadcast themselves ‘live’ simultaneously across different devices and platforms."

  • ZiiVue - For all your entertainment needs
The ZiiVue is Creative's attempt to be a content provider. It boast a wide variety of content offerings such as HD movies, music, and TV media. Creative is already in talks with various music labels and production companies.

  • ZiiAcademy - The world in your hands
"ZiiAcademy is the future of education, paving the way towards a collaborative model for knowledge acquisition and assimilation. ZiiAcademy allows users to explore the information world in an interactive and immersive learning experience, and engage in live discussions. Future Books with embedded video, text-to-speech, dictionaries, online tutorials and even engaging in live dialogue with lecturers or textbook authors can be encompassed in ZiiAcademy, revolutionizing educational pedagogy as we know it." Sounds totally like the Zii MediaBook.

  • ZiiApps - There's an app for everything
"ZiiApps works with developers to produce game offerings, applications and utilities that support the Zii Platform. Developers who work on the Plaszma SDK can upload their applications to the ZiiApps store, which offers global support and distribution." Read: Zii App Store.

- ZiiOnaut Affiliate Program
"The ZiiOnaut Affiliate Program is a sales and marketing scheme that engages individuals to sell and market Zii products and accessories. ZiiOnaut Affiliates earn a commission when a third party purchases products or accessories from Zii.com through his referral." Not a developer or OEM partner? Become a Zii re-seller and benefit as well!

Today, Creative brought the Zii ecosystem to a new level with the announcement of the TRINITY mobile platform and its ZiiLife range of services. Together with the ZMS-05/05 chips and ZiiEGG, ZiiLABS has everything a no-brand company needs to propel itself to international market at super fast speed. However, despite how great Creative claims its Zii range of products to be, we have yet to see for ourselves if the products live up to the hype. It also doesn't help that no major company has adopted the ZMS chip or Plazma OS. There's still a day more to go before the Zii Summit ends and I do hope that Creative would unveil more products or announce any partnership it has forged. OR at the very least show us a video demo of the ZiiMeet or TRINITY phone. We will have more images/videos for you soon, so do check back on us!

Those services sound nice, it also seems that they are targeting so strongly those no-name companies and making devices such as the trinity phone that look really cheap instead of looking as top-of-the-line and hi-tech as they are supposed to be, and that would make it hard for big companies to embrace the system.
They must make prototypes that look as nice as they sound in paper.

Also, I can't believe they will release a music store, Creative is really turning into a completely different company. It's nice to see the evolution and I hope they succeed.

There's already a ZiiApps and a ZiiLife website.

WOW I spoke too soon yesterday, didn't know the summit was today.

I hope we get stateside partnerships...

I think the most interesting thing that could happen is Google's full support and making this THEIR Google phone.

then maybe we'd see features like google wave and google voice.

Ahh my wishlist just grew :}

thats what worries me. whether its just a lot of chinese based firms who im going to assume wont make many inroads into other markets.

Be nice to see what the US and European market has in stall in regards to partnerships there and whether or not a bigger name will take on board the zii chip in some form or another. such as the tegra/ion platform etc.

having viewed the video there's ziidisk (online storage?) and ziijournal (online blogging using zii egg/ trinity? )

also it looks like ziiapps isnt a creative website just some dick trying to make a quick buck if they have plans on selling it on. doubt they're going to do much with it... Im sure creative thought of this and have a name for it and either way it is a platform for companies to build from.

Only search Ziiapps.com. contact us at -email-. Like the Domain?! Let us know. This site is not sponsored by Zii, Creative, or Google.

I think Creative already has the domains it needs, smichael already showed a while back the names and if I remember right, ziilife was among the names, so yeah, they probably already have the portal they need for those apps.

wow this sounds really promising. I really hope someone picks up on these products, or perhaps Creative themselves can sell them.

And yeah, Creative did register a bunch of domains including Ziitalk.com Ziiphone, and others. They should have thought about Ziiapps too.

Sadly they didn't register ZiiTrinity.com either. That one was bought today by someone else :/

I don't think they will announce any consumer products at this summit sportsguy28, this pretty much was to showcase the ecosystem and prototypes using the zms chips to Chinese companies who might be interested in using the technology creative is offering.

We can only hope they release something at CES early next year but then again, nothing is for sure, they might just release some other not zii related stuff and just showcase the new chip and prototypes as they did last year.

They should release that the zii player and the zii phone, obviously with a different name and different aesthetics, first because those are both ugly and at the same time too similar of those of the iphone and second because if they release them with the same casing and then some no-name company decides to buy devices from creative the way they are, then the devices of both companies would look exactly the same which would bring confusion to the public.
I hope they lose that toy life design they have always gone for and start doing something more up to date and more industrial or minimalistic in a way. they already have the hardware and software now they just have to nail down the looks

Let's see.. all the big carriers already have nice phones.. how about making a 'smart phone' wifi device for prepaid carriers such as Tracfone?
