The full FCC report that originally confirmed the Zii and Zii EGG has now been released. In the report you'll find all kinds of test shots, including some of the player's internals. Additionally a full user guide has been provided, detailing many of the Zii's features. We should note that the FCC actually tested the "Zii" model, rather than the "EGG" version. In fact, the manual only refers to it as the Zii, and is written with the consumer in mind. Is this a confirmation in itself that Creative will be releasing their own consumer model? We'll be providing oyr growing evidence for a consumer model in a few days. Inside the Zii The Zii uses a 1200mAh battery that appears to be non-removable. Click to Enlarge Notice the back simply says "Zii" Zii Manual [ image disabled ] Click to Enlarge Here we can see the proprietary cable used to connect to a TV, as well as the docking station for the player. The manual also confirms that you can charge the Zii from either the proprietary port, or from the more standard USB mini port. It's clear this was a preliminary version of the manual since a lot of information is still missing, including details about the interface, X-Fi, and Bluetooth. It seems like we're learning a little bit more about the Zii and Zii EGG every day. Make sure to check back for all the latest! FCC Report Thanks sdyr!

Aug 05 (2009) 04:47PM | likey. props on the Agent Smithiness. I would also say because the manual was written in March 2009 means they've been working on the rest of the stuff (the cool apps and os) for almost five months. |

Aug 05 (2009) 07:58PM ![]() | do you think there will be much style changes to the consumer version? other than just the egg taken off from the back? I hope the bundle the cable with the player. whats the deal with the av cable? that can't do HD right? unless that universal adapter allows you to use an hdmi cable? |

Aug 05 (2009) 09:01PM | @Metallic Blade Looks like it might be a flip cover for the mini usb connection I dont think any cosmetic changes, but perhaps in the software it locks up a bit to prevent John Doe from breaking his Zii trying to add Android as an application in Plaszma. |

Aug 05 (2009) 11:31PM | That is one of the best player designs by Creative in a while.. simple, clean and functional. One thing I miss though.. is that splash on the back. |

Aug 06 (2009) 08:36AM | I think the little piece at lower right must be a power/hold switch - the mini USB port is at top right in that picture. [ edited Aug 06 (2009) 08:38AM ] |

Aug 06 (2009) 10:35AM | even if the consumer version ships with Plaszma, I hope it's upgradeable to Android upon release. Basic consumers would probably be fine with the default, but people like us would want to try both flavors, even if it meant mucking around with flashing ROMs and that sort of thing. Also, since plaszma is based on Linux and will support Opera, does anyone know if other Linux programs will work out of the box? Amarok or other Ubuntu media players? Or do programs need to be coded specifically for the Zii? (as in ground-up code, not stuff to adjust for things such as differences in screen resolution, etc.) |

Aug 06 (2009) 09:00PM | Which is the diference between the version for developers and consumer version??? |
| Zensen
Aug 07 (2009) 02:29AM ![]() | pixicolor. nothing really, the internals are the same and the devs version is called the zii egg. devs get an plain gui with plaszma or android and they get to develop/test/build upon the zii platform. the consumer version will have a creative GUI ready for the masses with the Plaszma OS. whether you can boot android on there later, I can't answer that. |

Aug 08 (2009) 08:47PM | I'm still not completely convinced about a consumer version, but I hope it's true. Zensen, would you really release a non-phone DAP with a front VGA camera, for instance? This really feels like a development platform with the kitchen sink attached; you could develop an in-car GPS, a phone or a DAP on it, for starters. Slap a sliding keyboard on it and it could be a replacement for the Nokia N810 Internet tablet (and in fact it mirrors the leaked specs of the upcoming N900 replacement pretty well). By the way, it was mentioned that the battery appears to be non-removable. It is my belief that nothing is non-removable. The corrollary to that belief is that some removed things that were formally non-removable will now be non-replaceable, however. ![]() |

Aug 09 (2009) 04:22AM | All I'll say, even if this lacks a volume rocker, is GIMME!!!!! I want one NOW!!!!!!!! This is THE device that combines all the features into 1 package, it's pretty much what we've all asked for. And now, it's JUST out of my reach,...........figures. [ edited Aug 09 (2009) 04:25AM ] |
