The folks over at Cnet Asia had the pleasure of sitting down with a prototype of the Zii EGG. In the video provided, they give a nice overview of the player, as well as a brief glimpse of the Plaszma and Android OS. The Android OS looks pretty standard, but I did spot an icon for a "ZiiPlayer". "Though the company has clearly positioned the Zii Egg as an OEM product for other companies to adopt, Willie Png, vice president of Strategic Business, said there will be future Creative-branded products that will make use of the platform. He did not reveal any details, but said such a move will allow the company to showcase what the Zii platform can do in consumer products. " Very interesting! I wonder what kind of consumer products they're referring to? I really Feel free to speculate. Cnet Asia

Jul 30 (2009) 01:37PM | It reminds me that it looks like a larger Mozaic without the Mosaic. I wonder why he wouldn't show off the Plaszma OS. ![]() |

Jul 30 (2009) 01:40PM ![]() | yeh it was the main screen and that was it. It'd be nice to have seen the music player etc. |

Jul 30 (2009) 01:40PM ![]() | They said in the article that the faatures were limited in the prototype so a demonstration wasn't possible. There's probably not much under that main menu shell. The device appears to be made from the same material as the Vado HD (as someone else mentioned here earlier). I don't mind that, but I would probably prefer a hard matted plastic instead of the more rubberized surface. |

Jul 30 (2009) 02:06PM | I also would like to see more of that Plaszma OS. It looked beautiful on that screen. Also, on the Android screen, there was a Creative-developed app called "ZiiPlayer", which is a good sign for Creative developing their own apps for the platform. |

Jul 30 (2009) 02:29PM | will windows mobile run on the zii egg? |
| The DarkSide
Jul 30 (2009) 02:44PM | Bring the darn thing out as a commercial product!!!!!!!!!!! Damn it, stop teasing me!!!!! PS: windows mobile running on the Zii - I hope not!!!!! [ edited Jul 30 (2009) 02:45PM ] |

Jul 30 (2009) 03:51PM | this was just a tease. wonders what other products they have in development using both zii and plaszma |
| Bushboy
Jul 30 (2009) 04:37PM | The guy says there is no cellular facilities on the product. It would be a shame if they don't make a phone version. I am getting on and the eyes are fading and would love a product such as this with text to speech and I have always found the Creative screens better (if not great) than others for my eyesight. And the Zii screen is huge!! Please stick a phone in it so I can retire my mobile, PDA and ZVM (actually I don't think I would retire the ZVM, it's not really been beaten for large capacity, video and music and it acts as my DSLR backup storage when I'm out shooting) |

Jul 30 (2009) 04:49PM | why did did he say 1.3 megapixel camera? |
| Woembah
Jul 30 (2009) 05:03PM | yeah that surprised me as well, if it is HD, it should be at least 2.1 megapixel. But even that is a bit low imo. |

Jul 30 (2009) 05:23PM ![]() | Isn't it the same 720p camera as the vado HD? |
| omarceja_s
Jul 30 (2009) 05:33PM | I think it is, only the vado hd's camera is has wide lens whereas this one seems to have a normal one. |

Jul 30 (2009) 06:21PM | I hope the quality of the cam is just as good or better than the VadoHD's. That would eliminate the need to carry a pocket cam with you. |

Jul 30 (2009) 07:14PM | I'm just itching to try out the front VGA camera with Skype. I think, this device will also open up the ZEN share chat function that was a bombed event with the earlier Zen Xi-Fi. |

Jul 31 (2009) 07:56AM ![]() | I don't mind the rubberised feel on the vado but the skin that came with it was pretty horrible. I've had it off since ive had it and it still looks good - no scratches or anything. the screen on the vado could be much better tho. I would have loved to see some dedicated tactile buttons for music functions as that would that would a perfect compromise. e.g sony xseries walkman by the way info600, it pretty much is a competitor of the touch. do you think the touch is in a league of its own? its a pmp/dap whatever you wanna call it and so is the zii egg at least in its current form. It could be anything when companies decide to cash in on it. The iphone may have a successful app store full of useful fart apps and closed in systems that have brought out useful terms like jailbreaking. The zii has a lot of possibilities that could pushes things further than apple have done when it comes down to the bare basics, under all the gizmos is a concept that apple aren't doing and thats opening it up to open source using android / plaszma OS and opening up their eco system further and higher than the iphone/touch currently swims around in. I think if this can go well then watch iphone drop back into the pack as you can see a lot of companies have learnt from what apple did with the touchscreen concept and have gone further with it. though they are big enough to copy creative again, being overrated is a false sign of innovation [ edited Jul 31 (2009) 08:06AM ] |

Jul 31 (2009) 09:17AM | A Zii hand held gaming console could be one consumer product. But they would need to add some controls to it in order to go up against the DS and PSP. I think you would have a few issues playing Grand Theft on a touch screen only. And again, A MOBILE PHONE ZII!!!!!!!!!!!! [ edited Jul 31 (2009) 09:18AM ] |
| HipHopScribe
Aug 01 (2009) 01:03PM | This is looking like Creative's first winner in a long time, but the lack of tactile buttons for basic functions would kill it for me. Maybe there's some chance that could change for the consumer model. I certainly hope so. [ edited Aug 01 (2009) 01:04PM ] |

Aug 02 (2009) 04:52PM | it does, It would look a lot better if it were metal even the shiny ipod touch doesn't look bad, although scratches easily and is a finger print magnet. the zune hd looks gorgeous, I just drool when I see it, this one is ok but nothing extraordinary about it, I have a vado hd which seems to share the same rubber-like plastic which is not that bad, doesn't scratch easily and doesn't end up with finger prints all over it but also doesn't make an statement and turn heads when in the wild. |
