well, just imagine the screen is the device and there you go.
Android is and OS for mobile devices as Zensen said, therefore doesn't matter if you use a dev platform to demonstrate it. the point is that it works with android and because of that the chip could be used in mobiles.

everything works with android. its open source, so you can run it on anything if you put some work into it.

development platforms can easily be made into smaller portable devices. Creative will always make one.

Just remember that we always need the competition to bring down the prices and increase the quality.

the zii was running a 720p video on a development platform. The tegra was running a 1080p video on a prototype device and then playing a 720p video game.

they are certainly not the same thing.

It's only a matter of time. They only came up with 720p for the event, but at CES they showcased the chip running 1080p.

The capabilities are practically the same.

maybe, but nvidia is much further along in the product cycle. They have partners with devices on the way.

I think Nvidia's roadmap is much further along than Creative's. Even if the Zii was better than the Integra, companies will still go with Nvidia because of its brand power.

It's also difficult of course to do much of anything when you're constantly losing money and looking like a company on its last legs. It's just too risky an investment for other companies to make. Hopefully (a word I use a lot) this demo and others like it will get some comapnies to give them a chance.

that's exactly the problem, nvidia has won some ground already.
Creative is in Barcelona to showcase the capabilities of zii with HD in Android, something they claimed to be pioneers at. and Nvidia comes with something pretty similar at the same time.

If I were a company I might consider buying tegra instead of zii because of the background of Nvidia and their reputation. and the prototype they have on display, at least to me, looks a bit more fluid and seems to do the same thing.
To the look of the customer as long as the product does what it's advertize and does it well, it doesn't really matter if it runs smoothly because of a tegra or a zii chip or any other for that matter. If zii is really as power efficient as they say, then creative should give at least an approximation on how much time a device would be able perform without running out of juice. Having prototypes on display is a better way to impress than just a dev kit.
Again, nvidia has this simple device doing some really nice 3D stuff and they claim that it would be able to run for 10 hours. if creative can better that number they must advertise it somehow along with any other capability the chip may have over tegra and others so that companies feel more attracted to zii.
so far the only partner on board that seems big enough to give the chio good use and recognition is MSI. Creative must look for more companies to get involved, otherwise this will be a failure even if it's a great chip.

Wow... imagine playing Crysis on the Android. Or, have true Xi-Fi hardware on the next ZEN. I'm betting that nVIDIA's Integra chip will be implemented in the upcoming Apple\Microsoft... hell even the next Sony walkman players.

to be fair to creative. Nvidia have been touting their baby for almost a year.. they've now got a portable prototype at a trade show unlike creative which is connected to a screen from an electronic board using android. win for them I guess. Im surprised that nvidia doesn't have a huge heat sink joined to the back of that portable device.

So will the zii chip be cheaper to produce, I dont know but if creative can live up to their pr videos and do the same and perhaps more than the tegra, it will get a 2nd look.

As far as I'm concerned when I bought my ZVM I didn't care what chipset was in there. It did what it said it could. Now if the Zii chip can do what it can deliver for companies out there at a competitive price then the tegra chip has competition.
