Disappointment all over me.... They already have the stone, but what is the point of having the muvo when it has worse battery life then the stone and not as many features??

I'm never buying anything Creative....

Honkie - I was thinking the same thing. They boosted the Stone battery life to 20 hours, but nil to the Muvo. The muvo is just a strange product when the Stone is already there and better.

Only thing I can think of it is marketed to people looking for something to double as a portable flash memory unit and this is in the same form as what is on the market - even though you can do the same thing with the Stone, you have to carry around the USB cable with you.

Well the boost for the Stone is because they increased the size of the player by a lot, while this seems to be roughly the same size as the T100.

Ahh I don't even know where to turn... I'm running out of space on my ZVM 30, I'd get a Zune 80 but the mandatory software is really bad. If Creative doesn't get in gear and release the ZVM replacement by March (which they probably won't) I'm gonna have to go for the iPod classic.

well, i can't say i'm surprised. i didn't really have any expectations for this year for any company really, especially after last year. iriver is doing nice, but nothing special.

Oh well, at least its not the fisher price toy thing they had last year. I'm just glad my ZVM is still in working order. I really don't understand Creative's moves, no wonder they're losing money:( Well I presume many will be moving on from Creative, rather than continuing to play the waiting game.

okay this player was a disappointment. How is it that this has worse battery life than the stone plus!? I guess you can use this as a usb plug for storing files other than music? even so, the stone is a helluva lot better looking than this!

MS should be seeing some zune sells this next month not from me tho as my zvm is still better!

true, but as cool as they are few people here own an ipod (why not one for the ZVW?) and as nice as the InPerson is it isnt really a mainstream product.

You guys should stop waiting for Creative already, you should learn from this. Look for an alternative. When Creative releases something I'm sure you'll know about it and then you can choose to buy it or not. I've waited and so did a lot of others and I'm pretty much fed up with what Creative has been doing so far. Also there were people here saying that close contacts of Creative are talking about a new player coming in CES '08 that "may be" the ZVM replacement; none of that happened. Also zip I know what happens in CES and I already know what Creative released, the dock and the video conference phone are the underwear and CES was the wedding.

Am I the only one who wishes Creative would release an HD version of the ZEN? With the same features but with 80gb and 160gb versions. It would be so cool, they could try to make the dimensions the same, but about as thick as the iPod classics.

But no... we're doomed to a sea of short-lived, very similar flash players. =[

I think 90% of the people here have been asking for something like that wasp, lol.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised. We were anticipating something special after Christmas only to find these little specks of nothing. Still, there are two days left at CES. SSJ, what do you think are the odds of new announcements then?

Suz, I don't think our chances are good. They do have some sort of Dinner event on the night of the 9th and maybe they'll tell people there about future products, but I don't think it'll be anything official. I'll try and find out if they show off any prototypes or anything.

The next big consumer electronics event is ceBIT in March. It might go hand in hand with the timing of their supposed WiFi player. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up though so don't read too much into that.

Give me one good reason why I would want to buy a flash drive with a screen and mp3 support with a headphone jack. I dont really understand this, why not make a Zen Stone with ummm i dunno video? I clearly do not see the point of this. What would be better is to make this charged with a external cable, instead of just plugging it in to charge it, because if someone decides to use it as a drive, the battery would break in around, err 3 months?

Sh4Dow, what are you talking about? Why do you think USB flash drives are sold? Because they're useful products. Much more useful than one that you'd have to bring a cable around to use. This is perfect for someone who has a notebook computer and just wants to plug their player directly into it. I don't understand why you think the battery would break if someone used it as a drive. Makes no sense.....

i tend to disagree ssj: how hard is it to carry a cable. if you have your laptop, then you have a bag, so put the cable in that. a separate flash drive and mp3 player would make more sense to me. if a have an mp3 player, chances are it has songs on it. so if i want to carry large files, i have to delete the songs first, or buy the larger model, which, for the increase in cost i could just buy a flash drive. and also, this thing is much larger then your average flash drive. people (me) tend to lose flash drives alot (although i NEVER lose or break anything, i am very careful with stuff) so instead of losing a cheap flash drive you lose your mp3 player. flash drives are also abused, dropped, thrown, left in pockets and live. how strong is this thing? another thing i tend to do with flash drives is share them around, let friends borrow them for a day to copy stuff - then i dont have as mp3 player. i dunno if it would fit in many USB ports. alot of laptops tend to have the USB crammed next to each other, and i almost always have a mouse plugged in. and with many desktops the USB ports at the front aren't clear, and the players mass would prevent the USB being plugged in. and whats the price like? i can get a 4GB flash drive for $20AU, surely less in the US.

another observation is that most laptop users are fairly tech 'smart' and would probably not be interested in such a basic player.

maybe i am being a little harsh on this player....maybe because it sent my crap-o-meter right off the scale, but i just dont see a market for it.

it resembles a player you would buy 2 years ago, not something of 2008.

Quite simple really, though i haven't read the in depth stats on the player, and the hardware, i implied that the battery is a lithium-ion rechargable.

So lets say you use it as a flash drive AND a mp3 player.
Example:
You are going to school or work, listening to music, with a word processing document inside your flash drive mp3 player.
The battery level is around 70 percent, and you turn off the player, and plug it in to open the word processing file.
Once you plug it in, the computer's USB 2.0 port instantly starts recharging the player.

But sorry if i've been unclear in my earlier post.
I merely meant a special "charging jack" , so that once you plug it in to the computer VIA the USB Flash connector, it will not charge and cause unnecessary strain on the battery.

The charger could be a USB cable (special) that only charges, and does not transfer data, so if you want to transfer data, you dont charge at the same time, wasting the lithium-ion's life span.
So sorry ssjmicheal, i was kind of un clear in my first post.

well Sh4Dow, i guess Creative overlooked this since they wanted to make this product as convinient as possible. The 9 hour life on this this can be explained as Creative assumes you will be using it for data storage first, so the player will be recharging constatly.

As of now, Creative OFFICIALLY does not have a true classic iPod/ Zune 80 competitor, period...

Sh4Dow, li-ion batteries are not damaged or strained by being charged. i am pretty sure staying charged is actually good for them.

moorey, if you are carrying a laptop why are you using a flash drive at the same time? flash drives are the most useful when you don't have a laptop and are transferring files between desktops (work/school <-> home) or when transferring files to another person's computer. in those situations, needing a cable is a pain.

I agree that at this time, flash drives are so cheap that this purpose is better served by a separate flash drive, though.

Creative has had a real lack of innovation in their DAPs lately...and no, replacing the HDD in the ZVM with flash and calling it a day does not count as innovation. I tried out my friend's iPod Touch the other day, and I must say...it's simply one of the most elegant and innovative devices I've ever used. I got a feeling of giddiness even more so than when I first turned on my ZVM. Sadly, one cannot even begin to say anything similar about Creative's current products. Without any real competitor to the iPod Touch/New Nano and MS Zune, I guess I'll have to turn to the dark side and say farewell to Creative.

i dont think elegant would be the right word for the itouch. its a good PDA and all, but elegant? no way. Smooth sliding action, yes. Elegant? no.
