Creative shuffles out the Muvo T100

[ image disabled ] We all know the Zen Stone was made to compete with the current iPod Shuffle, but Creative just announced another player that looks eerily similar to the 1st Gen Shuffle. The MuVo T100 is essentially a Zen Stone in flash drive form. It comes in the same array of colors as the Stone, and has pretty much the same feature-set. One notable upgrade comes in the capacity department. The T100 has up to 4GB's of storage. That's not exactly a great thing considering the player lacks a screen. Another new addition is a Bass boost button.

Features

  • Capacity: 2 and 4GB
  • Audio: MP3, WMA, and Audible
  • Doubles as a flash drive
  • Battery Life: 10 hours
  • Dimensions: 77.49 x 24.99 x 8.9 mm (17.8g)
  • Colors: Black, White, Green, Pink, Blue, and Red

Despite the iPod Shuffle resemblance, the player has its appeal (especially in black). Creative will be selling these exclusively in Singapore. They will be available by the end of October with the following pricing: The 2 and 4GB models will cost 89 and 149 Singapore dollars respectively, or approximately $59 and $99USD. I haven't gotten the word on whether we'll see these outside of Singapore, but I have a feeling we will. Knowing Creative, there's likely a screen version in the works as well.

OMG why would creative release something that looks so similar to first gen shuffle they already got the stone out as you pointed out.
IMO creative just loses rep for getting a designer similar to the shuffle and we wonder why they don't have a huge market share.

Why are they doing this? Who comes up with their ideas?

do you guys know why NOKIA is the biggest hand phone manufacture in the world? Because they introduced new models every month, even some models may not selling well, but together they get a lot of money.

I think this is creative trying to simulate!

Even this MP3 model may cover the same market range as Stone, there is no doubt that more and more people will buy CREATIVE's product!!!

Hi, michael, why you say "Creative will be selling these exclusively in Singapore." in your thread???

Cnet Asia says it "Expect to see it in stores at the end of October worldwide. "

check cnet link you give in your thread (the last sentence)!!!

To be very honest, I dont think thats a great release and a very good product.. Especially coz it looks like an outdated Apple product!!!

I dont understand, what the R&D people at creative are doing are they doing research to improve???Well i dont think so. Coz a company who had made a great product like ZVM, stops making them and now is interested in making stuff that is outdated a year or two ago??? I dont understand. No body need to make anything for this product.. They have the tech and they just have to make a case for it and ship!!!! Do they call this an improvement, Sorry i dont think so.. Whats the difference betweem Stone and this!!! Nothin only that this guy can store upto 4Gigs.. Ya right.. Imagine choosing a song Blindfolded in a stack containing 4GB of songs!!! Great.

So much I could say about this but will refrain ... LOL

Why not just keep with the Stone form factor? Now that's a winner ...

Also, 2 and 4gb without a screen is a pretty scary thought.

This is definitely a strange move on Creative's part. I don't pretend to understand what they are doing here. I didn't like it years ago when it was the shuffle and I don't like it now.

instead of making new players

they should focus on marketing there current players

XIAO YONG, because Creative says it in their Press Releasee.

Look at the release: [Linky]

Pricing and Availability

Creative MuVo T100 will be available exclusively at The CREATIVE Stores at Marina Square, Plaza Singapura and International Business Park and the online store at sg.store.creative.com in Singapore at the end of October 2007 at the suggested retail prices of S$89.00 and S$149.00 for the 2GB and 4GB models respectively.

I'm sure Creative will bring it to other regions soon enough, but who would you quote when writing this up, a news source covering a company, or the company themselves?

Wow, dumb. "Let's make something that looks like an old iPod Shuffle! Ya, that will work!"

Give me a break guys. How "Creative" of Creative to come up with a knock-off of an old player. At least make it look like the new shuffles...

I wish creative was more like Cowon and less like Apple.

I'm not sure you'd want that maximus. Cowon's players are way too expensve, and from the ones I've used have an inferior interface. The codec support and features are nice though. Like Creative, they take forever to release players.

I think iriver, and Samsung have the best potential right now. Great looking players, nice interfaces, and good pricing. They just need to beef up their codec support.

Actually, Samsung might even be a better bet. iriver just takes too darn long to make product available.

Samsung really makes great daps I loved my Z5 when I had it.

If you consider the T100 primarily as a flash drive, that also has the capability to double as a music player then it becomes a much more likable device.

Thumb drives have a lot of usefulness.. but they are single purpose oriented.. add the ability to play back music with one and you then have something much more interesting which serves double duty.

Add a few portable apps.. say portable Firefox, mail program etc.. and now you have a triple purpose device.... storage, always having your personal settings with you for those times when you use some other PC.. and a music player.. what's not to like in that scenario?

why, creative, why?

it's as if they've taken the zen stone, and turned it into the zen stick (in the mud.)

i dont wish Creative was more like Cowon, i wouldnt want a player thats about as ugly as a pimple. ... though, they should borrow some of there features + Apples marketing Strategies + (well looks arent too bad)... When will they learn that flooding the market wont work with so many dam mp3 players.. gah creative.. gah lol.

I think Utew has a great point. Hell, its 4gb, you could put Grand Theft Auto San Andreas or WoW on them in an ISO and play it on any computer!!!

Looking at it as a triple duty device is definitely good. Instead of a normal dap which serves good audio and possibly crippled video, this serves 3 purposes quite well.

I was almost positive that Utew's post was sarcastic, lol. Anyway, I really don't know if that's what Creative had in mind when making a 4GB screenless dap. I mean flash drives are incredibly cheap nowadays. Maybe it's just the time of the night, but I want to endorse this positive view of the T100.

I wonder if it's Readyboost capable, if so we have one more purpose we can add

No sarcasm intended... although I do belong to the Hugh Laurie (Dr. House) School of Sarcasm...

I think the T100.. would be a great school device.. for carrying back and forth school homework.. along with the other benefits I listed..

But anyways its definitely a very multi purpose DAP, despite no screen.

This could be an attempt by Creative to establish an unconscious association in the minds of the public to Creative and the ipod. This is Creative's silly putty pressed firmly against the publics postive image of all things ipod.

i wonder whats the purpouse of the MuVo T100...It looks too much like the first gen shuffle...Maybe they want to make something like the Sansa Express? And like the Zen Stone, a screen may be coming
