Creative releases a 16GB Zen V Plus!

[ image disabled ]It looks like I was spot on when I said in my Zen Stone review, that Creative could compete in this flash memory arms race. They've just beaten out Apple and others, by releasing the Zen V Plus with 16GB's of built-in memory. The player is currently being sold at Creative's store in Singapore at a price of 399 Singapore dollars, or around $263US. It will come in black with a white joystick accent.

The move to higher capacity flash players is inevitable. Apple is rumored to release Nanos with 16GB's or higher by the end of the year. I'm just glad to see Creative being more aggressive with their new releases. In the past, they'd usually wait for Apple to make a move before releasing something to counter it. Hopefully they can bring this new model to other regions in a timely manner.

Thanks, moovo

idk, i have a good feeling about this

thats really expensive........ i could just buy a new zvm and get 30gigs instead of 16....

Uh, no it's not Ashra. Flash players are always more expensive than HD players. The 8GB iPod Nano retails for $249US. Are you telling me getting a player that has twice the memory of that for 20.00 more is actually that expensive? It's an exceptional value for a mainstream flash player.

I totally agree with ssj.. I'm happy for creative with this move.. Awesome.. Now creative produces the largest MP3 players in terms of storage capacity..

Holy! I come to the site to check some things, and BOOM! 16GB! This is going to change everything, and we'll see it happen more and more. Good first move Creative, made my day, maybe even a dent in my wallet lol.

Small IS beautiful!

16 GB.. and Flash.

I thinkts a perfectly GREAT deal too !!

THe fact that in the V+ you wouldnt be concentrating on Video much.. makes it best for audio !
and 16GB is JUST PERFECT for it !

And YUp.. mee too have a good feeling about this !

Glad Creative made this step before anyone !

I'll tell you what ... I've been waiting for the release of the 8GB Clix2 which retails for $249.00 ... without hesitation I will pick up the 16GB Zen V Plus instead at this price of around $260.00 ... I think it just may be cheaper than that in the US but if not, it's still a fabulous deal.

8GB is okay but just not enough for me. I would rather just put all my music on there than having to make up playlists and do a partial sync to 8GB (which I do now for my MicroPhoto).

this feels right for creative's lineup. A larger memory player dedicated mainly to music has been missing since the touch

Aug 02 (2007) 07:02PM
^@ ts, and you still get a video player feature as well!

hmmmm, I may have to just get me one of these. Hopefully Creative follows their newly established trend of quick releases after announcing, like with the Stone....

Great Job, Creative!

btw, is this the "other flash ZEN" we've been hearing about being released before the end of the year, or is this just a bump to an existing DAP (which it really is), and we can still expect to see another flash Zen??

spill the beans, Michael!

i guess when looked at from a different stand point, it is a good deal, but even so, im afraid its just too expensive for me. i just wish i could have that for the black and white look. it would totally match my style.....

This is awesome! I just hope they don't delay in the release in other places around the world like they normally do....

I really hope they also release an updated ZVM soon. This is cool and all but much rather have a 30+ video player.

I like that they are catering to the mainly music crowd though. 16gb in a player so small is awesome. I just watch a lot of videos on my players.

this wasnt for video and isnt a video player. this is a flash based MUSIC player, lets all just be a little more patient and we'll see the successor soon enough

so whats the difference between a flash and hard drive mp3 players?

TomRemixed
Aug 02 (2007) 09:44PM
Flash is faster and more compact. It is much easier to put a lot of space on a harddrive though.

Raider Red
Aug 02 (2007) 09:48PM
plus hard drives have problems in situations where it's bounced around.

kickenchicken
Aug 02 (2007) 10:48PM
AND hard drives werent ever made to be portable, just look at the HUGE amount of failing drives due to mishandling by the owner.

ooh i see so they both have good things and bads things about them can't they make a hybrid

kickenchicken
Aug 02 (2007) 11:10PM
there is a hybrid, its called a SSD drive or something. its part flash, part disk.

Congrats to Creative on 16GB of flash in a DMP..

...but back to reality for a second.. do we really think this will be coming to the U.S. anytime soon? Creative usually isn't punctual.

AND though I understand many of you really like the V/V+ line, this amount of flash would have been better added to a higher quality player... seems a waste just to up the cap for a less than spectacular player.

None-the-less... it's good to see a bump to16GB.

I'm pretty impressed by this.

At first I thought, like I always do with flash players, "Not enough space for me." But then, upon further thought, I think 16G is right around the least amount of space I'd be willing to deal with.

Because of the 8G and lower capacity, I've never paid much mind to the V or V+. When I saw that a 16G might be coming around I started looking at pics and stuff. WOW! This thing is freaking small!!!!! LOL! The screen is beautiful (just like my ZV:M) and it even has a dedicated volume control (players actually still have these!?!? . The line-in just blows my mind.

Yeah... my ZV:M. It sh*t the bed this past week. I'm still very sad about it. So much so that I've actually been considering an 80G iPod (the gapless is nice).

But then I saw this. So... I think I just went from wanting an 80G player to thinking I can deal with just 16G of space because it's so freaking small and cool and because it's Creative (we've had our differences, but they've been good to me so far).

How's that for some craziness? LOL

My beef with this is, the zen v plus design is primarily a DAP, and not really a PMP.. no real codec support, or features we come to love in the zen M/W lines...

Maybe by the time Creative comes out with the 32gb Version they can call it the Zen V+M 32gb while making the form factor similar to an Ipod width, than a 30gb Zen M (a bigger screen too).... Also, if we go by the Zen Stone as a reference point, battery life may be lacking as well.. (10-20% below it's competition)

But reallly, I don't load more than a couple of gigs of audio with my 30gb zen.. I store 75-80% video 20-25% audio..

Price is also steep for a V+ line... Sandisk & Ipod nano do video somewhat better (no clipping) although they're still stuck @ 8gb.

Varuna
Aug 03 (2007) 06:35AM
Ipod Nano doesnt do Video btw..
And yup

The good this is that Creative made a step to the 16 GB flash before anyone.

Usually Creative waits for others to release!

Great Deal !

Aug 03 (2007) 01:39PM
Sure the Ipod-Nano doesn't but the Sandisk Sansa E Series does.. While they were at it, they could have dropped the 100-160 (200gb) bomb on Apple with updated Zen M & W lines... all the while Apple is focusing it's dollars on the iphone..

As others have pointed out, the real question is when it will ship Stateside? Until that happens, it's not going to register on radars here, and iPods will be affected not at all.

what drakest said, imo i do/dont see how this would benifit players like the VIsion:m. for audio only this is great, since it seems TONS of people out there have over 10 gigs of music. but if it was a 32gb flash player, then of course, it WOULD benifit the Vision:m imo, because since its also a video player 16gb would not suffice.

Have you actually seen video playback on the e200 series tmc? It's nothing to write home about either...

Aug 04 (2007) 02:06AM
Still prefer a 30gig zen as it works out cheaper in regards to space

But the upside is the better battery life i assume.

I'm a fan of these zen v products thats for sure.

if you want to see some good video on a 1.8" screen, you should see the Samsung T9

Ahhh good for those who don't have a lot of music, I guess. Can't wait to see 64GB/128GB flash memory players that do lossless. 16GB doesn't even hold 1/5 of my collection.

Aug 04 (2007) 10:43AM
can we buy one of those in the states, like on Ebay or directly from their store in Asia?

I have a 4 gig Zen V, and love it. It's the perfect size for the gym or for travel when I just want audio (i've got a W for video, and my M is too bulky for travel). My only complaint is 4 gigs is not enough. I was going to get an 8 gig, but if I could buy a 16 that would be perfect.

Can I buy one and ship to the states, or do I have to wait for it to arrive here, which for creative, will likely be sometime in 2011.

ssjmichael

It'll likely be on ebay soon from sellers in Singapore, but at a premium.

Varuna
Aug 05 (2007) 03:55PM
Yup.. that would be sooner than official maybe !

And people !
This player is MAINLY for Music !
You really want Video .. It isn't !
Its like How you see your mini shot clips on it...

and I Respect Creative for focusing THE V and the V plus mainly for music!
Video would be absurd !

Im_Numba_1
Aug 06 (2007) 06:01PM
its wouldn't be absurd just unnecessary

I don't think Creative released its 16GB "V" with its eye on Apple; I think it was a preemptive move on Sansa. Sansa has developed a SDHC module which puts 32GB on a single card. The current modules are meant for internal use only, but I'm sure that external card is due, down the line.

So the Q.1 becomes will Sansa update the e-series, it WiFi toy, or just go with a new product. Q.2 is will they stop at 16GB or will they introduce a 32GB SDHC based unit which would compete with HD-based units, as well as RAM-based units.

IMHO, the next 18-24 months should prove most interesting for the DAP market.

P.S. SDHC = SD High Capacity RAM module
