Lately, most new products from Creative have been in the accessories department. That's unfortunate for fans like myself, who are anxiously waiting for a new player from them. What's more upsetting is the ratio of new iPod exclusive products to those for their Zen line of players. Here's a rundown of their latest "Made for iPod" line of products: X-Fi Sound System i600 [ image disabled ] This speaker system is the same as the X-Fi Z600 for the Zen Vision:M. It is easily one of the nicest looking systems I've seen. The docking station works with every standard iPod and iPod Nano to date and is equipped with Creative's X-Fi technology. Two satellite speakers and one subwoofer accompany that glossy black dock to make one gorgeous looking setup. Playdock i500 and TravelSound i [ image disabled ] [ image disabled ] Similar to the X-Fi i600, these two speaker systems were first released for Zen players as the Z500 (or Playdock Zen) and TravelSound Zen V. To confuse things a little further, the i500 was previously announced a few months ago as the Playdock i. The big difference between the Zen and iPod versions deals with player support, The smaller Travelsound i not only supports the Nano but the full size iPod 5G as well . The Zen version was only compatible with the Zen V (Plus). Xdock Wireless [ image disabled ] The Xdock was first revealed at this year's CES event. When the Xdock is paired with wireless receivers, it allows you to listen and watch content from your player in any room in your house (see demo). Creative said a Zen version would be released eventually but that still remains to be seen. So there you have it. A slew of new products from Creative that most here probably don't care about. From what I've heard Creative should be releasing a new product within the next 2 months, but no, it's not that dream player many here have been waiting for. Press Release

Apr 11 (2007) 09:01AM ![]() | These products are sweet, although they cost so much. I would love to buy one for my ZVM. Creative knows that by making a good iPod accessory, they can make good money. I rather creative make ipod accessories and stay in business than just make their own mp3 players and accessories. (although we know that they wouldn't go out of business, beacuse of their sound cards) [ edited Apr 11 (2007) 09:04AM ] |

Apr 11 (2007) 09:05AM | Those products look so sleek and cool.. too bad is not a new mp3 player from creative but accessories instead. Think these products will be good news for ipod owner since there will be more choices for them.. price?? [ edited Apr 11 (2007) 09:07AM ] |

Apr 11 (2007) 09:46AM | I think these products are sweet too. Yes, Creative is making the correct business decision by selling iPod accessories. But, I think they shouldn't ignore their own MP3 players. I hope they make versions of these accessories for their own players. Or, at least, make an adapter to use their players on the iPod accessories. |

Apr 11 (2007) 10:43AM ![]() | Yeah. It's a good demo of what the product can do. As mentioned, most of the products above are also available for Creative players. The Z600 unfortunately isn't sold in N. America. I really hope it gets here though. |

Apr 11 (2007) 11:30AM | I wish they made the TravelSound compatible with the ZVM as it would be easier to carry than the Playdock when you are traveling/vacation. |

Apr 11 (2007) 11:51AM | I suppose they are not for the ZVM in which case i'm very very disappointed. Creative please start making something equally nice for ZVM customers. or else it would be similar to reverse-braindrain.. Creative DAP users might jump to apple ipods.. I seriously fear that.. |

Apr 11 (2007) 01:58PM ![]() | Is it that hard to make them compatible with an Ipod and a creative zen? I guess integration and having it fit snugly is important? Perhaps bringing one out now for creative players would mean an x-fi portable player is a while away? On that note, does having an x-dock wireless available for current creative players mean sales would suffer if they were to bring out a player that had inbuilt x-fi capabilities in the near future as it would be pretty pointless for those paying premium for x-fi if they already have it... but the concept of what that dock can do is great |

Apr 11 (2007) 06:43PM | why dont they make ONE of each product and include adapters for ipod and ZEN in the same box....this way ZEN owners have a much greater chance of being able to find one. otherwise they are by far the best ipod dock i have ever seen I WANT ONE....for ZEN |

Apr 11 (2007) 07:49PM | i thought this is a zen site??? why r u showing products 4 the ipod?? |

Apr 11 (2007) 08:00PM | I like what engadget said: "Now let's hope Creative will put some of that iPod accessory income to good use building the next Zen Vision player." |

Apr 11 (2007) 08:00PM ![]() | It's a Creative fansite and these are Creative products. Since they don't have a ton of outlets to show off their new products I'm happy to help them with that, even if it doesn't particularly interest us Zen owners. If you are a fan of Creative then I imagine you'd want them to get as much coverage as possible. You know that marketing isn't their strongest dept. Additionally, there's hardly been anything to report on so I just wanted to put somethign new on the frontpage. |

Apr 11 (2007) 08:21PM ![]() | They have to produce products that will sell, but on the other hand there are already enough speakers around for Ipods so these may just get forgotten. |

Apr 11 (2007) 08:31PM ![]() | To clarify what I just said, in case it wasn't clear from the sites content over the last year (and the name of the site). This is a Creative site for Creative's MP3 related products, not every single one of their products. This is a webring of DAPreview, so clearly our main concern is DAP's. Other products such as speakers, headphones, and MP3 related accessories also fall under our coverage [ edited Apr 11 (2007) 08:31PM ] |

Apr 12 (2007) 01:04AM | unfortunately this is the very reason i gave my vision:m to my dad and bought a 5.5G ipod for myself. the ipod dock in my scion will never be a zen dock, like the vast array of accessories that are out there. on the bright side change is coming. ford is going to start equipping cars with the sync package which will interface with MTP and UMS devices. so ipod AND zen AND zune all get supported out of the box. i would like to have kept my zen but i have found having an ipod has made it easy to find tons of cool applications and neat hardware to further extend my mp3 player functionality. i miss FM radio but it was a small price to pay to get hands free in the car, way more choice with software syncing, and half the size. i think instead of people crying about a product that doesnt have support they should do research on what they want when they buy the product. there seems to be a clear line on the users here who love to get into flame fights and make dumb comments about 'ipoo' and its deficiencies, only to further their dumbness by saying things like 'come on creative support me.' many of the users here bought the zen vision:m knowing support would be scant, and are fine because the product is better. (yes the vision:m is better duh) if you want a rich selection of after party components you have to buy the product with the best market power and apple is the winner. they make deals in the right places and their hardware becomes entrenched. creative is making dents but creativelabs has always been a nerd-tech name not mainstream moron joe's information. if you dont know what a soundcard is you might not know who creative labs is. so thats it. creativelabs sucks at getting its name out there. they make great products but they dont spend enough money on memes and product advertisement and ultimately the moron fanboys are the only ones who will defend them, and they dont do a good job of getting any point across anyway. i bet they ditch the mp3 market altogether and let m$ and crapple and samhung duke it out. too bad. those three could learn a lot from the vision:m. maybe if apple bought creativelabs??? i have no idea how much either company is worth, but that would be pretty exciting to me. |

Apr 12 (2007) 10:10AM ![]() | We don't get our point across??? I know you're point. You love yer Ipod... Those who have known about creative long enough know they are unlikely to bring out a lot of accessories unlike the mammoth amount of 3rd party support for the IPOD... This is changing in regards to 3rd party support for the zen. The upside for supporting Ipod - people who haven't heard about creative are going to be able to use creative products with the Ipod and hopefully they can see that their players arent half bad either and thats what 'affiliates' try to do, get their name out whilst making a profit... A bit disappointed with the x-fi wireless playdock because it certainly sounds and looks good from the demo I saw. Surely an adapter would have sufficed at the very least? On another note, the market for accessories for the Ipod is a lot bigger than the Zen but it does us no good as this product created by creative cannot be used on our very own zvm. Yet, it'd be nice to see these instore than having to scout for them online. We may not see much advertising over here but it does trickle out and secondly, i have no idea how much advertising they do in asia. All i know is i was able to find out about the zen. surely people savvy enough will too. Also accessories arent the end of the world for me but to be somewhat snubbed like that for whatever reason kinda sucks. Other than accessories, i cannot see why an apple and creative merger would benefit me. I don't like itunes nor a crippled player... thats says it all. styling? i like the style so it doesnt bother me. [ edited Apr 12 (2007) 10:39AM ] |

Apr 12 (2007) 10:11AM ![]() | Everyone keeps ignoring that the only one of these products does not have a ZVM version, the playdock, which im pretty sure theres is on for the zen v (i may be wrong with this one). there is also too much to creative for them to be bought out by apple. i would hate to see soundblaster by mac proprietary. Apr 12 (2007) 02:16PM ![]() | Here's what we don't have on the Creative side from above: 1.) A Zen version of the Xdock - Creative said they'd make one, but again, haven't seen any word of one since CES 2.) A Travelsound speaker that supports the ZVM - The one above shows it's possible, and some (like davinp) would prefer that over the larger Playdock Zen (Z500). Everything else is the same with the Zen. I agree with Zensen that there should be one product with interchangeable ports for both iPods and Zen products. I don't know how possible that is, but I wonder if they even tried. I'm also upset that the Z600 has not made it over to N. America yet, or if there is even a plan to do so. It's clearly the nicest speaker set Creative has designed, and one of the nicest I've seen in general. |

Apr 12 (2007) 08:01PM | Would it be logical to think if stores got these Creative accessories in (and lets face it they grab anything to do with the ****ing iPod, that they'd have no problem in obtaining the Zen counterparts? |
| Utew
Apr 13 (2007) 01:24AM ![]() | You would think so aquamonkey... been waiting so long for this stuff, that I'm beginning to lose interest. Creative had better dazzle us quick.. or my money will be going to iriver soon.... |

Apr 13 (2007) 05:04AM | Nice encouragement for people to stick with Ipod over Creative players... Maybe one day Creative will support their own products, like at least a simple cradle for the vision W???? |
| 1AussieBoy
Apr 14 (2007) 04:16AM ![]() | It does seem strange what Creative are doing, they would have so sooooo..... many more sales if they supported there DAP's with accessories when they are new(ish). Oh well who knows maybe the next player will have accessories support following quickly behind it's release ![]() |

Apr 14 (2007) 08:22PM ![]() | As if there wasn't enough iPod stuff. I am so tired of it. I might just save up for a damn iPod Video. Pisses me off that at my Wal-Mart, the Zen was put under "Portable Media Players", but the iPod and Zune have their own labeled display cabinets. Creative should have their own cabinets, too. The ONLY Zen accessory was a Charger for a Micro. Everything else was MADE FOR IPOD. ![]() |
| moorey
Apr 15 (2007) 08:03PM | they should make the z600 / z500 work with: ZEN, ZUNE, IPOD, IRIVER that way stores will have it because it works with ipods and then others can buy it and still use it |

Apr 16 (2007) 03:24AM | Ok, when the hell is the Z600 going to come out in the US already? I want one now! |

Apr 16 (2007) 06:03PM | you know, i forgot apple had the ipod hi fi, box, thing.... the i600 appears to blox it right out of the water, for me at least. |
| Bitshitter
Apr 18 (2007) 12:39PM | Apple blew the big one with the HiFi....after about a month or so, it became a non-item, along with the $99 leather slip case...... It would not be hard at all to make these speaker docks with interchangeable cradles. Sure, the one for either the Zen DAP or the iPod DAP would have to have the wires crossed because of the reversed wiring, but that's simple to do. You just buy one speaker dock, and then buy - as a separate accessory item - the cradle insert that's relevant to whatever DAP you own, and slide it into the speaker dock. There may be some licensing issues with some players if you wanted to include players from Samsung, Sandisk, Cowon, iriver, etc. But you already have the licensing down for the biggest player out there (iPod), so the hardest part is already achieved. Unless Creative feels that it'll make more $$ selling multiple speaker docks than it would selling just one speaker dock, but many different inserts. It would be hard to justify selling an insert for a lot of money...... But it would also guarantee that the speaker docks would sell, because a customer won't be going into a B&M store looking for a particular speaker dock, and walking out empty-handed because they are out of the particular one he/she needs. With the cradle inserts, they all will work. |
