Is this Creative's ZenPhone?

[ image disabled ] Many of us are hoping to see a new player from Creative as this years CeBIT convention or at the IT Show in Singapore. Aside from CES these would be the best places for Creative to unveil something new. I was browsing through Creative's flyer for the IT show and unfortunately I didn't see anything new. What I did find interesting was Creative's Xmod connected to a mobile phone. I looked closer and it seemed like it was Creative's interface on the screen and the controls looked similar to those found on the Zen Vision and Vision W.

Ever since Apple announced their upcoming iPhone some have speculated on whether Creative will follow suit and release a phone of their own. Although I doubt this is an upcoming phone from Creative, I want to know what everyone else thinks. My guess is this is just a phone that already exists, or it's just a generic "cellphone" mockup made for the Xmod ad. I'd personally be surprised if Creative ventured into the mobile phone business. Apple can take big risks in that tightly packed industry, but I'm not sure if Creative can.

Yeah, it really does look like a Creative phone, and the things you've pointed out about it stand out as well. I guess we'll just have to wait until CeBIT to see.

As I said in the related thread, this phone looks like a whole lot of different phones put together, this makes me think it's not much more than a mock-up at this stage

I'm guessing they just did that to show their intentions to allow it to connect to more than just creative players and the PC. It works with anything with a line out right?

Yeah it does. It was the fact that they put the Zen interface on it that made me inquire more. If the screen was blank or had a recognized phone UI then I wouldn't have even mentioned it. This is the first time (that I can recall) seeing it with a phone too.

Hmmmm... For the XMod to be a viable accessory to a cell phone, wouldn't it also have to be wireless? Perhaps there's a new battery powered XMod in the future?

But I just saw the fine asterisked print that points out "Connection in this setup requires separate AC power adaptor.

i dont thinkt he xmod will come with it...unless built into it...creative themselves has to be, honestly, stupid to sell the player with that because people would have to carry it around with them and that would be boring.

but i think that they are showing how if you own the xmod you will be able to hook it to the phone and player music off it

seems as though they have created a mock phone to avoid any copyright issues. A zen phone would be cool though if creative make it half decent and the design shown there doesn't seem half bad.

I could see xmod being built into future cell phones -- but I don't see Creative introducing a cell phone in the near future.

Licensing the Zen patent & xmod in cell phones may be an easier path.

I would rather see a new Zen DAP with X-fi technology.....

I notice the flyer also says the 8GB V plus has now got a chrome joystick.

Wow, real brainiacs in the marketing department over at Creative - the pic description says "Connect to a handphone for crystal clear music on the go" while the asterisk denotes "Connection requires an AC power adapter"
